Case Study: ER/PR+ HER2neu – Breast Cancer and Nutrition

JM is a pleasant 41 YO female with a recent diagnosis of breast cancer who is healing from a bilateral mastectomy. She has been seeing a naturopath who has provided her with a supplement regimen and desired more nutrition and food related counselling. In addition to receiving a comprehensive breast cancer and diet packet, I provided her with suggestions for reducing supplements with food-based options, along with easy snack and meal ideas, including online recipes, to assist her in making changes. In addition, there were a few supplements I felt could enhance her current dietary supplement protocol:

Life Extension Melatonin 10 mg two capsules at bedtime. (Lower melatonin levels increase estrogen levels, and this increase is linked to estrogen-receptor-positive breast cancer. (J Psychiatr Res, 2015) Data from several studies support that elevating nighttime melatonin levels plays a critical role in repressing the spread and progression of breast cancer. (Mol Cancer Res, Nov 20 and PLoS One, Feb 2020)

Twin Lab Super Digestive Enzymes w/each meal or snack (for gut issues like constipation, gas, bloating)

Viva Naturals psyllium powder (replaces inefficient capsules).

Nordic Naturals Omega 3 fatty acids (for muscle retention, increase effectiveness of treatment, decreasing risk of metastatis)
