Metastatic Breast Cancer in a Postmenopausal Woman

T.S. is a 61 year old who was treated for hormone receptor positive breast cancer almost 2 years ago; after round of chemotherapy and radiation, the cancer has returned, having spread to her bones and liver. T.S. has returned to chemotherapy and is experiencing a number of negative side effects. Her goal is to have a higher quality of life and have more energy to live vibrantly through her journey.

She comes to me with strength on her side. Her blood work is almost perfect. Her weight is good, although I have included plans for safe, weight gain to prevent any weight loss. In addition to a receptor-specific dietary protocol, she was placed on a dietary supplement regimen that has taken into account her multiple medications. My recommendations are below:

Once bone marrow is suppressed enough to significantly drop blood cell counts, chemotherapy must be stopped. Whey protein supports the rebuilding of white blood cell count.

Lower melatonin levels increase estrogen levels, and this increase is linked to estrogen-receptor-positive breast cancer. (Front Cell Dev Biol, Feb 2018) Another benefit is that piperine increases the absorption of turmeric. Curcumin, acting as a phytoestrogen, competitively blocks estrogen, suppressing breast cancer cell growth. (Cell Physiol Biochem, 2010)

Ibrance works inside the cell to disrupt the activity of the proteins CDK 4 and CDK 6, which can keep both healthy and cancer cells from dividing.

For night sweats, consume phytoestrogens like soy and flax. This is particularly important for anyone diagnosed with estrogen receptor positive breast cancer because the plant estrogens work to block receptor sites, effectively preventing the “feeding” of breast tumors.

For brain fog (chemo brain) that can last for several years post treatment, omega-3 fatty acids and Redi-mind dietary supplements are key. To reduce risk of osteoporosis caused by Faslodex, support bone health with Vitamin D and calcium.
